Grandfather Robert Betteley, 59, died despite desperate efforts by paramedics to save him after the crash outside the entrance to Alvaston Hall Hotel yesterday (January 13).

Mr Betteley, from Nantwich, was taken to nearby Leighton Hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

He was riding his bike along the road at around 2.10pm when the collision happened between the A500 and Wistaston Green Road junctions.

Police have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with the incident.

In a statement, Mr Betteley’s family described Robert as a “Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and good friend too many. A truly remarkable person. Who will be well and truly missed by all.”

Police closed the busy road for several hours as investigators examined the scene and vehicles involved, causing long delays around Nantwich.

Police have renewed their appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen the bicycle or the silver coach are urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 403 of January 13, 2015.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
