Parkinson's UK - Nantwich Civic Hall, cost falls

Nantwich Civic Hall bosses hope the venue’s toilet troubles will be at an end soon.

The hall, now run by Nantwich Town Council, is to finally undergo a £81,000 project to repair and revamp its crumbling loos.

But organising that work has been driving councillors round the u-bend!

Nantwich Town Council heard last night (January 12) how contractors had initially failed to submit their tenders in on time.

Then the contractor who submitted the lowest bid said they were unable to complete the work on time.

Other problems included where to site the temporary loos during construction work.

Finally, another contractor RCL Construction is now in place and the work will start on January 19, to be completed by March 13.

Town Council clerk Ian Hope said: “We could not afford the toilets to be closed when the Nantwich Jazz Festival takes place as we have several large concerts booked in.”

Cllr John Lewis added: “I feel it would be a real problem if we did not get this done for next year in terms of all the events we have planned.”

The venue will also be closed for two weeks in the summer, the council was told last night, to polish the dance floor.

This work will take place between August 4 and 16.

Meanwhile, Cllr David Marren revealed that the council is to reduce the hall’s operational costs for 2015-16, down from £97,000 to £89,000.

He said: “We have less layers of managements and less administration, so we able to make this additional savings even when local Government is facing a difficult time.”

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
