Cheshire High Sheriff Susan Sellers is in top gear as she plans a major celebration of art and craft in aid of local hospices.
Mrs Sellers, from Tarporley, near Nantwich, hopes to welcome huge crowds to Oulton Park race circuit where professional artwork will be showcased and sold to boost funds for hospices.
“Art in the Park” is a free community event to be staged over the weekend November 15-16, and includes craft workshops, vintage bus tours and track rides.
More than 40 Cheshire artists will display work alongside items produced by A-level art students from schools across Cheshire.
Mrs Sellers, a keen craftswoman, said: “When I became High Sheriff I had an idea in mind for a community event showcasing art.
“Now it is reality, I can’t believe how much it has grown.
“It will be an event for everyone, not only art-lovers.
“A chance to appreciate the fantastic creative talent base we have here in Cheshire and see behind the scenes of Oulton Park, sometimes overlooked unless you are a racing enthusiast.”
Artists taking part have agreed to give 30% of sales to the county’s five hospices including St Luke’s in Winsford and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd at Backford.
An ‘art market’ will offer items up to £50 while other funds will be raised through workshops and Rally Master laps of the track.
Families can try their hand at willow-weaving and get creative with mosaics and glass. Workshops will carry a small fee with proceeds to the hospices.
The Chequers Restaurant will be open for refreshments and face-painting for children.
Oulton Park will provide ‘track taster events’ with 20% of online booking proceeds going to hospices.
Other four-wheel attractions include a static display of the new GT Racing Cars by Bentley Motors and Young Drive – a chance for children aged 11-17 to receive expert tuition behind the wheel.
Mrs Sellers, a former chairman of the Countess of Chester Hospital, said: “I have made it my business to visit every in hospice Cheshire. I have found them places of laughter, mutual support and hope.
“They make a huge contribution to local communities yet sadly all face a continuous struggle to cover running costs.
“I truly hope Art in the Park will help because without these wonderful places I am not sure what would happen when local people and their families are in the greatest need of support.”
