Two young Nantwich musicians have made it through to the area finals of the Open Mic UK competition.

Talented teenagers Callum Wright and Josh Whittaker have wowed judges in each stage of the contest so far.

And once again their impressive talents shone through when they were selected among the top 10 in the under 16s category to make the North West area final on November 16.

Callum, 15, a Brine Leas Academy student, and of Shrewbridge Road, Nantwich, sung “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran.

Josh, 14, (pictured below), who attends Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, sang “Stronger than Ever” by Raleigh Ritchie.

Both youngsters, who were hit acts at the recent Nantwich Food and Drink Festival, where they performed in the Bowling Green marquee stage, are now just one step away from the National Open Mic UK Finals.

They both made it through the initial stages at Studio 25 in the summer, and took part in the regional final on October 5 at the Royal Northern College of Music in front of a packed 600-seat audience.

Callum’s dad Paul said: “He gave a fabulous polished and confident performance and he was able to enjoy showcasing his incredible vocal range with live acoustic guitar.

“We want to thank everyone, including family and friends for their continued support. He is really excited to be competing at the next stage.”

Josh said: “I really felt I did my best, and it was an amazing experience singing to that many people with the sound system and staging like it was.”

Judges chose their “Top Picks” based on scores in five categories, to go straight through to the area final, then two additional acts were decided using the audience vote.

“It’s incredible, there were so many amazing people performing,” added Josh.

“I’ve had so much support through this, and I can’t thank everyone enough, I’m one step close to the O2 Arena!”

The North West area final, which includes performers from Scotland, takes place on November 16 at the Royal College of Music, in Manchester.

Tickets for the Open Mic are £10.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
