Nantwich Town captain Mark Jones says he relishes playing in different positions other than midfield.
Jones, who celebrated his 50th appearance for the Dabbers at the weekend, stepped into the back line after Adam Jones went off injured.
And Mark believes his extra bit of pace means he can read the game well from deeper.
He also said he was delighted at achieving 50 games in the victory over Matlock since joining the club in 2013.
“It was nice to get the 50th appearance for myself,” he said.
“But it was all about getting three points as it is every game no matter how we get it.
“It is just about getting three points.
“Obviously we haven’t been getting the three points lately, we have had a few slip ups.”
Jones was praised for the way he stepped back in to defence to cover for his injured namesake Adam.
But it’s a role he has performed at previous club Radcliffe Borough.
“Adam went off injured after 25 minutes, so I had to go to centre half, which isn’t my position.
“I played there on the Tuesday night, and felt I did well, obviously we conceded but we drew 1-1 with a good performance and on Saturday we were really solid.
“The only time they broke through was down the sides putting balls in the box.
“Apart from that they didn’t create much and we looked a lot more threatening going forward.
“I have played a couple of times at centre half at Radcliffe and I have done a couple of games here.
“I have been playing a bit deeper as a midfielder, so you can sort of read the game a little bit more being centre half.
“I have found that because I have a little bit of pace I can drop off and know that I am not going to get done for pace as much.
“But to be honest I don’t feel like I got a sweat on when I play centre half. I feel like I have got a lot of energy and want to burst forward.
“I have just got to keep calm and keep my position.”
Jones will be back in league action this Saturday (September 27) when Nantwich Town travel to face Trafford, boss Danny Johnson’s former club.
“They are a great little club and one that will always hold a special place in my heart,” said Johnson.
“The club has really taken off over the last few years and in Gary Vaughan and Wayne Goodison they have an excellent management team.
“Trafford have some extremely talented footballers in their squad and I have no doubt it will be a very tough test for us on Saturday as they like to play good football, retain possession and have pace in the final third.”
