Nantwich police station

A new police contact point has opened at Nantwich Police Station on Beam Street.

The contact point will provide members of the public a 24/7 access to frontline help desk and control room staff.

The console is part of a revamp in the way Cheshire Police is accessible to the public in local communities.

It was revealed earlier this month that the manned front desk at Nantwich police station would be cut back to five days a week from six. It will now be shut on a Monday and Sunday.

insp-dave-smithersInsp Dave Smithers (pictured), who heads the Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU), said: “The management of the Constabulary help desks and its staff was put under the control of the Force Control Centre a while ago and as such the they are now responsible for the staffing at Nantwich.

“Our help desk person works Tuesday to Saturday inclusive. Saturday was seen as a busier day in the town and so likely to have greater demand.

“Rather than have our NPU staff work within the help desk on Mondays, I feel they are better served by our staff being out on their beats providing greater community involvement and reassurance.

“This change in ownership has also brought along a change in providing a better service.

“Members of the public will now have 24/7 access to a Police Contact Point where they will get chance to speak directly to front line helpdesk/control room staff via the console which has been fitted.

“This unit also provides a section where people can gain information about popular topics/issues and may provide details they require and reduce their need to have to speak with the police.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
