Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

It was a sheer delight to go along to the opening night of ‘April in Paris’ at The Lyceum, writes Claire Faulkner.

Written and directed by John Godber, well-known for ‘Bouncers’ and ‘Shakers’, this wonderful modern comedy had the audience completely spell-bound and very quickly lost in the world of the two main characters.

The set design cleverly mirrors the characters’ lives and situation throughout the production.

The play centres on married couple ‘Al’, played by Joe McGann, and ‘Bet’, played by Shobna Gulati.

Al has recently lost his job in construction and Bet is a romantic dreamer, addicted to competitions and looking for a bit of excitement.

Both were simply superb in their roles, equally maintaining great comic timing and stage presence throughout the entire show.

There are numerous scenes in the play which stood out for the audience.

In particular the disco scene, which shows McGann and Gulati at their best, the audience was just roaring with laughter.

There was also the incident in the restaurant, at the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Metro experience, I could just go on and on about how funny this production is…

I’m sure that this modern classic will delight audiences for years to come.

Oh, and Mr Godber if you’re reading this, please carry on what you’re doing, you make going to the theatre a pure delight.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
