kittens at RSPCA Stapeley Grange centre in Nantwich

Bosses at the RSPCA Stapeley Grange cattery have issued a desperate plea to find homes for abandoned cats.

Staff at the centre on London Road in Nantwich say they are now full and cannot take any more cats or kittens.

They say the surge in numbers is happening nationally not just in South Cheshire, and that centres are “overwhelmed” with cats and kittens.

There are currently 71 cats and kittens at Stapeley Grange.

No more will be taken in until new homes are found.

Staff are urging people not to buy cats on the internet or from pet stores but to visit their cattery.

Despite a busy summer open day, they only managed to rehome two kittens in their care.

Lee Stewart, RSPCA centre manager, said: “We are once again full to capacity and we are struggling to take in any more cats or kittens until we can find new homes for those already with us.

“Once we have space it means we can then take in more – I just hope anyone who is considering getting a cat or kitten comes to us first, we have so many lovely felines all desperately in need of a loving new home.

“When we are full, it is also tough for our team to say no to our inspectors who are often struggling to find temporary refuge for their abandoned or mistreated cats.”

The Open Day raised £5,400 thanks to big support from the local community.

Lee added: “The success really was down to the local community, those that joined us on the day and those who supported us with prizes for our raffle.”

The centre received additional funding of £500 from the Wirral and Cheshire Badger Group.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
