Danny Johnson, Nantwich Town boss Oct 2013

Nantwich Town warmed up for their first league game of the season away at Buxton with a 6-3 win over Cheshire League side Crewe FC, writes Richard Scott.

Dabbers boss Danny Johnson named a near full strength starting 11, but brought in Terry Smith in goal for Steve Phillips.

After a couple of close chances for the Dabbers, former Northern Ireland forward Steve Jones opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he rifled a shot into the top corner.

Fellow forward Max Harrop then netted Nantwich’s second two minutes later following a great advantage call by the referee.

Mark Winslade made it 3-0 on the half hour mark, before Scott Lycett made it 4-0 with a half volley from the corner of the area.

Steve Jones got his second of the match just before half time with a neat header from an Andy White cross to put the Dabbers 5-0 up.

At half time, Johnson made 10 changes, as well as allowing former Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Phillips to play in net for Crewe FC meaning Terry Smith played the full 90 minutes in the Dabbers.

And it was Crewe who opened the second half scoring – former Nantwich player Nathan Southern converting.

Just after the hour mark, Kyle Blake headed in a corner to make it 6-1 to Nantwich to restore the Dabbers five-goal lead.

But Crewe got on the scoresheet twice more through Danny Lavalette and Dan Lloyd, both goals coming from the left hand edge of the area, to make the scoreline a bit more respectable.

After the game Dabbers boss Danny Johnson pleased with the performance.

He said: “It was ok.

“We were pleased to go in at half time 5-0 up.

“Then in the second half we have had six or seven trialists and we worked out a few new things in that half.

“But we looked really comfortable first half with 4 of the 5 goal scorers. So we will take that.”

He praised the opposing team’s staff for getting the game on after torrential rain earlier in the day.

He said: “The pitch is magnificent.

“The water has really helped it as it would have been bone dry otherwise and it has drained well.”

The Dabbers play on Tuesday (July 22) away at Alsager Town, 7.30pm kick off, at Wood Park Stadium.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
