Crewe Vagrants Under 9s triumphed in dramatic style over Aston in the South Cheshire cricket cup final in Nantwich.

Needing just three runs from three balls, young Jack Hayter smashed a boundary to secure victory by the narrowest of margins.

Parents of both Crewe and Aston gave both teams an ovation at the end after a thrilling contest at the Vagrants sports ground in Willaston, Nantwich.

Aston won the toss and batted first on a warm, sunny evening.

And they got off to a good start with the first pairing notching a series of boundaries.

But Crewe pegged them back with a number of wickets thanks to some sharp bowling by Rory Pillar, Ben Jarvis and Thomas Stokes.

Aston eventually finished their 16 overs with 111 for 7, leaving a net target of 77 for Crewe to chase.

Each of the four pairs of batsmen for Crewe contributed runs and defended well against a strong Aston bowling attack.

And it was the defence which meant Aston only managed to claim three wickets – the deciding factor.

Final pairing Jack Hayter and Josh Hall saw the hosts home, with Jack’s boundary two balls from the end the clincher.

Crewe finished on 94 for 3, a net score of 79 which gave them victory by just two runs.

Both teams will face each other again on July 28 in the final league game of the season.

And with Crewe marginally ahead at the top of the league, it is likely to be a title-decider.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
