Nantwich could soon have an interactive police kiosk in the town if a pilot study in nearby Crewe is a success.

Cheshire Police has launched a pilot of the kiosks designed to make it easier for people to get in touch with the police and access information.

The Police Contact Points are placed in community locations where members of the public can speak to a Force operator via telephone or web chat.

They also provide access to an A-Z database of frequently asked questions.

The Contact Points are currently being trialed outside the Crewe police station as well as in Ellsemere Port, Neston and Orford in Warrington.

The scheme will be evaluated on the benefits they bring and value for money before police chiefs decide to roll them out across the county.

Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Janette McCormick said: “The ability to contact Cheshire Constabulary by web chat opens up many opportunities for us to support members of the public moving forward in the digital world. We encourage people to go out and try them.”

John Dwyer, Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, said: “I want to make it as easy as possible for you to contact the police.

“The Contact Points look like cash machines and can be used to directly access the force control room, used to get advice, help or report a crime using the touch screen.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
