A 40-year-old Nantwich dad is in training for a 75km bike marathon in the Welsh mountains to raise money for a £1 million hospital appeal.

Simon Warbrook, of Stapeley, will tackle a challenging route starting and finishing in Rhayader, the gateway to the spectacular Elan Valley in Mid Wales.

The marathon will take place on Sunday May 25, and Simon will be riding in aid of the campaign for a second MRI scanner at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

Simon, 36, who is married to Colette and has a son, Ewan, four, said: “A close relative and I have used the scanner at Leighton Hospital.

“It’s an essential service and the hospital desperately needs a second one.”

The graphic and web designer is the director of Nantwich-based Warbrook Creative Ltd.

He became aware of the scanner appeal when he designed the logo for the campaign.

“Last year I completed a similar mountain biking event during a heatwave,” he added.

“But that hasn’t put me off challenging myself again.

“I’ve not seen the route yet but I imagine there will be the usual steep climbs and sharp descents – I can’t wait.”

The MRI Scanner Appeal was launched by the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity.

The aim is to provide Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a new wide bore 1.5T MRI scanner.

The £1 million appeal will be supported by an additional contribution of £1.57 million from the Trust to fund infrastructure and workforce.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
