A Nantwich primary school is calling for past pupils and staff to join in their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Millfields Primary School and Nursery first opened in January 1964 but the official opening took place in May that year.

Now the school’s current acting deputy head Samantha Williams is hoping former pupils and staff may be able to help with the birthday celebrations.

“We would love to put together a display of photographs and memorabilia,” said Ms Williams.

“And we’re hoping staff and pupils past and present may be able to help.

“If anyone has any photographs, school reports, artwork or trophies we would be delighted if they would allow us to borrow them so we can exhibit them in school as part of the celebrations.”

Millfields, on Marsh Lane, has grown considerably since it first opened its doors with just 38 pupils.

It now has 248 children, aged three to 11, and is looking forward to its next 50 years.

Back in May 1964, Nelson Mandela was on trial, Mary Poppins was the number one box-office smash, and Cilla Black topped the charts with You’re my World.

Fans of Coronation Street were reeling from changes that saw nine characters leave the soap with Ena Sharples’ great friend, Martha Longhurst, dying of a heart attack in the snug of the Rovers Return.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
