Big-hearted staff at Aqueduct Marina near Nantwich have started their charity effort with a bang in 2014.
Employees at The Outlanes venue in Church Minshull have already donated £441 to St Luke’s Hospice Cheshire since the turn of the year.
In 2013, the centre raised almost £1,500 for charity.
Robert Parton, marina director, said: “The money was primarily a donation from the marina.
“We didn’t post out Christmas cards this year but instead gave the money we would have spent on cards, postage and so on to St Luke’s.
“Some members of the marina community also made donations that added to the total.”
The cheque was presented to Claire Dale of St Luke’s Hospice by Robert (pictured).
Claire said: “We are so grateful to everyone who raises money for St Luke’s.
“It costs £1,000s a day to run the hospice and it benefits so many local people making all our fundraising efforts really worthwhile.”
Robert added: “I am very proud of the huge efforts made by our moorers and friends to raise cash for charity each year and it is tremendous to be able to add to this with our Christmas card donation.
“This year the marina has more events planned and as always we hope to exceed our totals for previous years.
“We hope you will come along and support us!”
The marina was opened in February 2009 and will celebrate its fifth anniversary soon.
In 2013 the marina supported the Helsby Golf Club Powered Wheelchair Appeal, the Shropshire Union Canal Society, the Small Tasks Team Volunteers who help maintain the canal, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
