Households in Nantwich can donate their Christmas trees after the big day – and raise funds for the local St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.

Families can arrange for a band of volunteers to take old trees away in return for a donation to the hospice.

St Luke’s has collected and chipped Christmas trees after the twelfth night for three years as part of its tree recycling scheme.

This year, staff are offering to collect real Christmas trees on January 4 and 5 from homes across Nantwich and surrounding area in the following postcodes – CW1,CW2, CW4, CW5, CW6, CW7, CW8, CW9, CW10, CW11 and SY14.

Jane Thompson, the hospice’s head of event management, said: “To get your Christmas tree collected just log onto the JustHelping site and type in your postcode find out if we are collecting in your area.

“The minimum donation is just £5. 80% of this comes directly to the hospice and the remaining 20% goes to other local charities chosen by the organisations that help with the collection.

“This includes Middlewich and Northwich Round Table, Tarporley Rotary and the Crosses Rotary group of Sandbach.

“We have had such a great response over the years so we are thrilled to carry on this great service with the support of JustHelping who take the payments and create all the mapping systems.

“The income which last year was almost £3,000 is a terrific boost to our funds right at the beginning of the New Year.”

Residents can now book in to have their tree collected and donate at the same time. Go to www.charityxmastreecollection.com

Volunteers will collect your tree on either Saturday or Sunday January 4 or 5.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
