Longton - returning against Silhillians - Joe Gammage, scored a hat-tricl against Earlsdon

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC went back to the top of the league after a battling 26-16 away win at Old Saltlians.

The Vagrants club scored four tries in the victory which showed the team can still win despite an under par performance.

Andy Brown’s injury-plagued 1st XV had to field several players carrying niggling injuries and they never really got out of the blocks against a powerful Old Salts team.

Crewe opened the scoring in the first few minutes when centre Joe Gammage (pictured) broke through and outstripped the cover to score a fine try.

Five minutes later after slick handling through the backline, the ball was released to fullback Toby Ward to score another try, converted by Jamie Little.

Old Salts replied with a penalty and a try, before No 8, Kirk Robinson smashed his way through three defenders after a scrum pickup for a converted try.

The hosts replied with another penalty and a try wide left to reduce the arrears to 16-19.

After the break, Crewe dug in and ground out another win with a final try by Ward converted by Little.

It was enough to earn a bonus point, and with Moseley’s 38-17 victory over Leek leaves Crewe top of Midlands 2 West (North) at the halfway point of the season.

Next Saturday, Crewe & Nantwich play Newbold-on-Avon in the Intermediate Cup at Vagrants, kick off 1.30pm.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
