Staff from Wulvern Housing have been helping collect vital supplies to donate to Nantwich Foodbank.

They joined volunteers from Tesco Extra to collect donations as part of the national “Every Can Helps” campaign.

Wulvern has been working with the Trussell Trust, Christian Concern and local churches to support Nantwich Foodbank and St Paul’s Pantry in Crewe.

The supplies will be donated to families struggling to afford food over the festive period.

Ceris Esplen, from Wulvern, said: “Changes to welfare benefits means many are struggling to put food on the table and causing more people to turn to Foodbanks for help.

“Wulvern’s continued support of the Foodbanks in Crewe and Nantwich is one of the many ways we are supporting our customers who are facing the challenges.

“Foodbanks help prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. A simple box of food makes a big difference and our continued support will help stop local people going hungry.”

Jane Emery, of Nantwich Foodbank, said: “Foodbanks are seeing people from all walks of life turning to us for help when they hit crisis.

“The current economic situation means that times are tough for many. Every day we meet parents who are skipping meals to feed their children.

“It is shocking that there is such a great need for Foodbanks in 21st century Britain, but the need is growing.

“Most recently we are seeing an increasing number of people who are struggling due to the impact of the bedroom tax which was introduced in April.”

Wulvern staff held a “Jeans for Beans” dress down day and gave up their time to volunteer with the collection.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
