Nantwich Players latest production of Hindle Wakes opens this week.
It tells the story of Fanny Hawthorne and Alan Jeffcote who secretly spend the weekend away together.
When the secret is discovered both face intense pressure from their respective parents to get married.
Written by Stanley Houghton, and first performed in 1912, Hindle Wakes at Players Theatre on Love Lane has been directed by John Powell.
The Players have captured the time and feeling of living in a God-fearing Lancashire mill town in 1910 exceptionally well.
The cast worked well and it was good to see some new faces take to the stage at the popular theatre.
Anne-Marie Scragg was well cast as Fanny. She gave a direct and strong performance, which is what the character needs.
Fanny is a modern day feminist who is determined to be able to have say in any decision making that may effect her life.
Cast opposite was Andy Leach as Alan, the son of the local and much respected mill owner.
David Bryan was great as Sir Timothy Farrar. Hopefully we will see them on stage again in future productions.
Thought-provoking and humorous in places, Hindle Wakes is an interesting reflection on British society and its treatment of women, marriage and respectability.
