Nantwich Christmas Lights switch on 2013, spectacular firework display

Thousands of people packed into Nantwich town square to celebrate the Christmas Lights switch-on.

TV vet Steve Leonard switched on the lights and families gathered together to watch a Blitz fireworks show.

During the day there was festive music provided by local online community radio station The Cat.

There was entertainment in the evening from the Malbank Festive Choir and Britain’s Got Talent dancers AJ and Chloe.

Father Christmas also took time out of his busy schedule to make an appearance, although he had to stop the Grinch from cheekily stealing his presents!

Nantwich Town Council’s deputy mayor Cllr Christine Farrall thanked sponsors and everyone who attended for supporting the event.

The crowds joined in a 10-second countdown before Leonard turned on the lights.

There was also a children’s mini-funfair, festive stalls and refreshments.

Other events in Nantwich included carol singing from Wistaston Singers, along with mulled wine and mince pies at the Cocoa Yard in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. had a good time at the Nantwich Christmas light switch on, on Saturday, Grinch and Father Christmas were really funny had such a good laugh. Malbank Festive Choir were good although some of the pupils looked frightened to death at the beginning of there performance, but i would be frightened too, as there were hundreds in the crowed, i thought they were very brave, and did very well. I also enjoyed Britain’s Got Talent dancers AJ and Chloe, but wish they had done a bit more dancing but i must admit it was a treat to see them. TV vet Steve Leonard was also fun and I had a good laugh at his new light up gloves as he switched on Nantwich lights. The fireworks were good too, but by then i was so cold i had to go home and thaw out with a big mug of too, lovely, well done Nantwich town.

What a brilliant Santa, he told the children to stay in bed Christmas Eve and sleep tight, to ensure a visit from Santa. My grandson must have thought he should do just that every night, and slept that Saturday night for twelve hours, a first ever!!
