Thieves staked out a Nantwich property before breaking in through a garden fence to steal six ferrets!
The offenders struck at night at a house on Crewe Road, in Willaston.
They climbed over fences from fields at the rear of the property before using wire cutters on cages.
Angry owner Josh George is now appealing for help to get his beloved pets back home. He believes the offenders must have known the animal were inside the garden.
Two of the six ferrets were found a few hours later abandoned close to the Peacock Pub, on Crewe Road.
“We didn’t realise they had been taken until the morning when a neighbour came across and asked whether we had lost one,” said Josh.
“Two were found across the road with the neighbour, so they must have been dumped to fend for themselves.”
The missing ferrets are two females, one light blonde, the other a polecat colour, quite thin.
The other two are large males, one albino and the other also polecat colour.
“They’ve cut a small hand size opening into the back of the cage, placing their hand into the nest box to take the animals,” added Josh.
“We believe they must have parked and walked back across the road, based on the fact the neighbour finding two ferrets in the same place would never happen, especially when it’s a considerable distance from where they are kept.
“Whoever took the animals knew they were there. “The cage is visible from adjacent fields which is used for dog walking, and also farm contractors harvest surrounding fields during this time of year.
“It only takes word of mouth for things to get around. They were most likely stolen for breeding purposes as you can pick up ferrets for as little as £5.”
