A lorry driver involved in a collision on the A530 near Nantwich which killed a cyclist, failed to stop at the scene, say police.

The crash happened close to Baddeley Bridge on Whitchurch Road in Aston.

The lorry and cyclist were travelling from Nantwich towards Whitchurch, at the time of the collision.

The lorry did not stop at the scene and is believed to have continued towards Whitchurch. It was light-coloured with blue or green markings on the side.

Paramedics were called but the cyclist was declared dead at the scene.

Police closed the road in both directions for most of the day after the incident which happened at about 1.40pm yesterday (November 12).

Officers have carried out door to door enquiries in the area to see if anyone saw the lorry before or after the accident. They are also checking CCTV and security cameras.

The incident comes just a few days after the Road Safety Foundation charity declared the A530 between Nantwich and Burleydam as the fifth most dangerous stretch in Britain.

Latest accident figures showed 23 deaths on the 8-mile route between 2007 and 2011.

Anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 453 of 12 November.

  1. Hi

I live at Bridge Farm which is near the Bridge.

The A530 is a very busy road and the traffic has not slowed down at all since the traffic lights were installed. It has been named the 5th worse road in Cheshire. How many more fatalities do we have before something is done regarding this stretch of road.

I have 2 children who has be dropped of by the school bus every day after school. It has come to our attention that there is NO designated stop on the left side going towards the lights. Our Children and others from the barns just get dropped anywhere and made to walk down the grass verge in single file back home. With this terrible accident to the poor man on the bike that could of been one or all off our children.

I have put a complaint into Cheshire East regarding our road, asking for a signs to be erected and a bus stop. I have been told its in the hands of the assessors. I first rang back in September.

We have witnessed a lot of accidents on the A530 please can something be done about the speed and the bridge.

    Kind Regards

    Sarah Odams Mrs
