Crewe and Nantwich community station RedShift Radio has submitted a formal bid to Ofcom for a full time FM licence.

If granted, it will see the station broadcasting on the airwaves to thousands of listeners across South Cheshire.

The not-for-profit organisation, which celebrated its third birthday in September, currently has more than 70 volunteers and three paid staff.

RedShift’s programme schedule is diverse and includes shows for businesses, young people, charities, sports and music fans.

The 70-page application to Ofcom will be scrutinised by the Community Radio team at Ofcom. A decision is expected by the end of January 2014.

Station founder Liz Southall said: “Compiling the application was a challenging but very rewarding process.

“The support letters from members of our community including Mr Edward Timpson, MP for Crewe & Nantwich, Paul Colman from South Cheshire Chamber and the Leader of Cheshire East Cllr Michael Jones, to name a few, have been both heart-warming and motivating.”

Local organisations have the chance to become a “Pre-FM sponsor” and support the growing RedShift Community Radio Station.

This will help them raise over £100,000 to secure their move to larger premises and first year of broadcasting on FM.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
