Nantwich Civic Hall was packed once more for another quality night of comedy as four fine stand ups waltzed into town!
Led by compere Carl Hutchinson, the line-up complemented each other nicely in the build up to star performer Daliso Chaponda.
His fabulously insighful outlook on life in England and English folk hit home time and time again, from a nation of complainers, to the supposed ‘financial crisis’.
Malawi-born Chaponda’s half-hour stint flew by and the audience were begging for more. It finished too early!
We saw him perform at Nantwich two years ago, and he deserved his move to the top slot.
He cleverly tweaked his older material and blended it with fresh, topical observational humour which was pitched perfectly to a mixed age audience.
Earlier, energetic Geordie Hutchinson had slowly but surely warmed the audience.
It’s difficult not to like this young, fresh-faced comic who will no doubt be a hit as he sharpens his material and gains more experience.
In contrast, old-hand Gordon Southern played the crowd brilliantly.
This denim-clad Essex comic revelled in the banter, so much so one chap decided to donate his trousers!
Second up was Irishman John Lynn, whose strutting laid-back style was in stark contrast to his fellow comedians.
His cowboy-esque approach tantalised at times as he developed his anecdotal gags, with the approach play sometimes funnier than the finished product.
All in all, this was another excellent show with three comedians making their debuts in Nantwich.
Promotors Civic Comedy continue to lure some of the best stand up talent around to the sleep backwaters of Cheshire.
