A young cadet from Nantwich has enjoyed a Royal visit to remember after completing his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

William Patterson, formerly of the 100th Air Training Corps (Nantwich), was invited to meet HRH the Earl of Wessex at St James Palace.

It was to honour William’s achievement in earning the Gold Award after 12 months of hard work.

He was required to complete a number of categories such as skills, physical, volunteering, and residential, during which he spent a week working with steam locomotives at the Ffestiniog Railway in Wales.

He also undertook an expedition in Bavaria, Germany, for five days walking and camping with other Air Cadets from across the country.

William has had support from Shavington High School (Technology Department), the Crewe Flyers Swimming Club, and also to the Nantwich and District Royal British Legion, whose members contributed towards his final expedition costs.

Nantwich MP Edward Timpson also invited William to the Houses of Parliament to congratulate him on his Gold Award.

Mr Timpson said: “It was fantastic to meet William on his big day in London, and I’m delighted he has persevered to complete his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

“The Award Scheme is a fantastic way of increasing a young person’s employability, and many employers would regard a Gold award as better than an ‘A’ level.

“I would like to add my thanks to all of those organisations who helped William along his way, but not least of all the Nantwich Air Cadets who do so much for their young members.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
