A council-run short-break service for people with learning disabilities has completed its move from Nantwich to Crewe.

The Cheshire East Council service, formerly provided at accommodation on Queens Drive, Nantwich, is now open at Lincoln House.

Councillors say the move means people with more complex learning disabilities can be catered for.

Lincoln House previously offered services for people with dementia and adults with a learning disability.

The decision to close down the Queens Drive facility was taken as part of the council’s review of buildings-based services in 2011.

Cheshire East Mayor Councillor Dorothy Flude attended the official opening of the new-look Lincoln House service.

Cllr Janet Clowes, Cabinet member in charge of health and adult social care, said: “I am thrilled to say this transfer is complete.

“It is a real boost to be able to provide more services and support to individuals who present more complex needs than was previously possible at Queens Drive.

“This has resulted in Lincoln House receiving new referrals. The service has also supported a crises response to a number of service users who have been in need of accommodation at short notice.

“We will continue to implement the rest of the review as scheduled.”

The unit offers ground-floor accommodation for five people, which includes two bedrooms with ceiling hoists and en-suite bathrooms equipped with hoist equipment.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
