A team of workers who took part in the North West Triathlon in Nantwich, raised more than £6,000 in honour of their boss.

The 37-strong team from Health Shield, who were among 900 competitors, participated in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer.

They conquered a 500m swim at Nantwich outdoor pool, a 20km cycle, and a 5km run around Barony Park, in aid of Health Shield finance director Maxine Wilson.

Maxine was diagnosed with bowel cancer and has fought the disease over the past 12 months.

Her colleagues were accompanied by Maxine’s husband and son, Ian and Adam Wilson.

Beating Bowel Cancer is a UK charity which supports those affected by the disease and provides information and support to those suffering from the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.

Zoe Steenson, Cheshire spokeswoman for UK Triathlon, said the North West Triathlon in Nantwich was another “hugely successful event”.

“The event started with the first competitor in the outdoor Nantwich brine pool at 8.15am taking on either a 400m or 200m swim, followed by the Cheshire countryside bike course of 20k and finishing with a thankfully dry grass run on the Barony Park of either 5k or 2.5k,” she said.

“The event was not without excitement, with Alex Lawton, 25, of JMC/Manchester, winning the Male Sprint in 00:56:49 and taking a new course record for the North West event.

“He wasn’t the fastest out the pool but wasted no time in completing the bike course in the fastest time of the day in 00:32:56 and smashing the run course in 00:16:55.

“The same excitement also came from the Female Sprint with Rebecca Brand, 35, of Manchester Tri Club, taking 1st place in 01:07:13.

“Rebecca’s first introduction to triathlons was through UK Triathlon events and she is now a GB age grouper.

“For the last three consecutive years she has bettered her time at this event and taken 1st or 2nd place, also smashing the women’s bike and run times this year to take the glory of 1st place.

“It was also fantastic to see more relay entries this year with nearly 50 teams completing the course and many of them raising money for charity.”

The next Nantwich event is the Cheshire Triathlon on Sunday June 1, 2014.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
