Nantwich Town travel to face Marine tonight (Sept 3), buoyed by a stirring ten-man performance against Ashton United.
The Dabbers earned a richly deserved 2-2 draw with top-of-the-table Ashton after having a man sent off early in the game.
Now boss Danny Johnson wants his players to build on that starting with today’s visit to Crosby, Merseyside.
“I’m proud of the lads,” said the Nantwich boss. “I’m disappointed we didn’t manage to hold on to the three points but it’s given us something to build on.”
Namesake Stephen Johnson made an impressive debut and will hope to celebrate his 26th birthday with another decent display against a club he played with for three seasons.
Johnson graduated through the ranks at Tranmere Rovers and served Burscough, Prescot Cables and Caernarfon Town before joining Marine in July 2009.
Marine slipped to their first defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 2-0 at Barwell, and will be keen to recover their position as one of the early season pacemakers.
The Mariners completed the double over Nantwich last season but the Dabbers will be hoping for a repeat of the last time they won at the Arriva Stadium when a Marvin Robinson brace gave them a 2-0 win on Boxing Day 2009.
Kick off at the Arriva Stadium is at 7.45pm.
Admission is £10 adults and £5 concessions. There is free admission for under 11s with a paying adult.
