Three Nantwich friends have completed a London to Paris cycle ride to raise vital hospice cash.

Charlie Gobbett, Tony Hoy and Gareth Roberts took on the three-day “Avenue Verte” challenge in aid of St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice.

They left from the London Eye on the banks of the River Thames on August 10, and three days later finished at Notre Dame, Paris.

Charlie, 47, a tourism and marketing translator, 61-year-old Tony, a retired general practitioner, and Gareth, 58, a bicycle instructor, are all members of Nantwich Players Theatre.

Gareth said: “The weather was kind and apart from one puncture and a couple of minor problems with our bikes, the challenge was enjoyable and hugely successful.

“Although we faced a few ‘teeth-gritting’ moments, pedaling up some steep hills, for most of the way we followed the “Avenue Verte” – much of which is on off-road cycle greenway.”

The trio’s fundraising efforts have reached over £1,000 for St Luke’s and anyone who would like to contribute can visit their Just Giving page http://www.justgiving.com/GCTcyclists.

During the last few years, the friends have taken on challenges such as the Coast to Coast (Whitehaven to South Shields) bike ride and the Welsh 3000s (Snowdonia) 15 Peaks walk for charity.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
