A village pub near Nantwich has won acclaim for its food and drink offer and business success.
The Yew Tree Inn in Long Lane, Spurstow, has won the title “Best Freehouse 2013” for the North West region in the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013.
Licensees John and Lindsay Cox (pictured) beat off the challenge of other pubs in the region to claim the title.
The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.
Editor Rob Willock said: “The pub had been closed for three years before the new owners took over and transformed it into the successful freehouse it is now.
“The emphasis has been on embracing the local community, with an excellent offer of food and drink to suit its mixed clientele.
“It supports local farmers and producers, with vegetables, beef, lamb, chicken, pork, game, eggs, ice cream, cream, cheese, real ale, potatoes and chips from the local area.
“The Yew Tree Inn also serves a great choice of real ale and wine and prides itself on its single malt, rum and gin collection.
“It is a very worthy winner of the award.”
The Yew Tree Inn will now go forward to the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013 final, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Thursday September 12 and hosted by actor and comedian Greg Davies.
It will go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title ‘Best Freehouse 2013’ and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year.
