A Nantwich councillor has hailed the second Societies Spectacular event a big success.

Hundreds of people packed a sun-drenched Nantwich town square to find out what dozens of clubs and groups have to offer.

And Cllr Stuart Hutton, one of the organisers, said the day showed off all the amazing things local people enjoy in the town.

The event gives societies a chance to show off what they do, network with other groups, and attract new members.

Fitness groups braved scorching temperatures to treat shoppers to demonstrations of Bokwa, Zumba and Thai Boxing.

The Cat Community Radio Station provided entertainment while inviting locals to get involved by writing, producing or presenting radio shows.

Other groups in attendance and inviting local people to have a go included South Cheshire Astronomical Society, Icicle Diving Club, Nantwich Walled Garden Society, Nantwich Film Club and Nantwich Bellringers.

Many groups reported an increase in interest in their activities and new members.

Cllr Hutton said: “As well as a display of fantastic community spirit, it is also a demonstration of just what amazing things Dabbers can do.

“Anyone who’s enjoyed performances by groups such as the Nantwich Players, Acton Amateur Operatic Society, or Nantwich Choral Society will testify – we have some extremely talented people in our town – and it’s wonderful to see them here, inviting others to get involved and have a go.”

“Before the Societies Spectacular, many of these groups didn’t even know about each other. Now they’re not only getting public exposure, they’re working with each other.

“I’ve heard some superb ideas for exciting community projects we could work on next year.”

A full list of groups taking part is on Cllr Hutton’s website www.stuarthutton.com, with an application form for those wishing to take part next year.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. We had some real interest in our film screenings and, talking to other groups, everyone said how good the event was. Stuart’s done a great job being the champion for this and I’d like to see more of this kind of thing; promoting the businesses and activities that go on in the local area.
