Nantwich Food and Drink Festival crowds, 2012

Organisers of this year’s Nantwich Food & Drink Festival are urging more local businesses to come forward and join in the event.

More than 120 different traders have already pledged to get involved during the three-day festival which brings £2 million into the town.

And this year the festival’s committee hopes even more will offer events and activities as they aim to attract 30,000 visitors into Nantwich.

Deborah Robb, festival chairman, said: “We are building on the success of last year, and we are keeping it in the middle of the town centre, and we have some really interesting stuff going on.

“We want to encourage the whole town to get involved and take advantage as the festival is for their benefit.

“Our aims are to bring economic benefits to the town and getting families to enjoy and understand local produce and food and drink.”

The festival, which takes place on September 6, 7 and 8, will be spread across a number of venues including the town square and the large Mornflake marquee at the Bowling Green pub.

There will also be the Magenta Food Court on the Church Lane carpark opposite Costa Coffee, a marquee at Residence bar and restaurant in Mill Street, and events on the Cocoa Yard between Pillory Street and Hospital Street.

Deborah added: “The festival does not make any money. Everything we have after covering our costs goes back into the town and organising the next year’s show.”

A new addition is a beer festival being staged in The Crown Hotel, to replace the one at Nantwich Cricket Club on Whitehouse Lane which is no longer running.

There will also be a “Man vs Burger” event, organised by award-winning Clewlow’s butchers, specialty food demonstrations with locusts and grasshoppers, cookery theatres involving award-winning chefs including Brian Mellor, and plenty of fun workshops for kids.

“We have some younger people on the organising committee this year which is a good thing,” Deborah added.

“So we’ve been able to get a few new ideas.  But we are looking for more events to promote as part of the festival, and entries for the Man vs Burger competition!”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
