Students at a Nantwich college have handed over nearly £6,000 as a tribute to Britain’s war veterans.

Proceeds from Reaseheath College’s RAG (Raising and Giving) activities were donated to Broughton House at their summer graduation ball.

Broughton House, in Manchester, is a care home for ex-servicemen and women of all ages and from all areas of the armed forces.

Students chose it in appreciation of the armed forces who have been or are still engaged in conflicts.

The college’s Students Association staged a series of events including a Las Vegas-themed RAG Ball, a 665-mile static cycle challenge, a raft race on the college lake and a tractor pull.

Other activities included street collections in Nantwich, Crewe, Liverpool and Manchester, an army-themed fancy dress pub crawl, a beer, barbecue and football day, car washing, a slave auction, leg waxing, a beer barrel race, a staff versus students football match and a sponsored ‘stay awake’ for one night.

Students and their dogs held a sponsored walk round the college grounds, and staff and students completed a sponsored Three Peaks walk.

RAG chair Sam Norfolk, 19, said: “We have had a fantastic team of Student Association members this year.

“Everyone has wanted to get involved in fund raising and we have really enjoyed putting together activities to suit all Reaseheath’s students.”

Chris Thomas, chief executive of Broughton House, said: “I am delighted at the amount of funding raised by Reaseheath students for Broughton House.

“The cost of delivering high quality residential, nursing and palliative care to ex-servicemen and women is ever increasing and generous donations such as this allow us to continue to strive for excellence rather than settle for less.

“Reaseheath College’s drive to support military charities should serve as an example to students in other colleges.”

Reaseheath students also raised £4,000 for other charities, including North West Air Ambulance, the Poppy Appeal, Red Nose Day and for a number of animal charities.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
