Reaseheath College scored a Cheshire Show hat-trick after its visitor friendly exhibition was voted “best outside trade stand” for the third year running.

The Nantwich college took top honours after judges gave it full marks for enthusiasm of staff and students and diversity of activities.

Top crowd puller on the stand was a Caterpillar digger which gave visitors the chance to operate the controls to move golf balls and tyres.

The digger was on loan from John Bownes, of Winsford.

Families also enjoyed riding the college’s mechanical horse, tried bricklaying with students from the construction department and had a go at milking a model cow.

Other activities, under the banner “Do Something Different”, included a climbing wall, a horticultural quiz, a floristry demonstration, bird box making and a bakery demonstration. Animals from the college’s zoo were also on show.

VIP visitors to the stand included Defra minister Lord de Mauley, who said: “I have been impressed with the breadth of activities, the knowledge and enthusiasm of staff and the obvious interest they are generating among members of the public.”

Reaseheath agriculture students also celebrated success in the cattle show ring by gaining awards in the calf showing and young handler classes.

Students Natalie Chambers, Lizzie Mercer and Becky Harper showed heifers from the Reaseheath Holstein dairy herd.

Marketing manager Glyn Ferriday said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate the range of vocational courses we offer.

“We are very proud of the success of our students and coming to the Cheshire Show each year gives us a great platform to show the public what we can do.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
