A teenage horse rider scooped a trophy for best student at Reaseheath College’s horse care course in Nantwich.

Taryn Denny, pupil of Bishop Heber High School in Malpas, is one of over 100 Key Stage 4 pupils to complete vocational qualifications at the college.

The pupils have been attending Reaseheath on one day a week while continuing to study for GCSEs at school.

Taryn, 15, of Bickley, is one of a group who have been gaining practical skills with the horses at Reaseheath’s equestrian centre.

She was selected as student of the year after impressing instructors with her enthusiasm and willingness to learn. She was presented with a trophy by sponsor Sue Blackshaw, of Nantwich Saddlery.

Taryn said: “I’ve really enjoyed coming to Reaseheath because it has made me realise I have to keep learning if I’m going to be successful.

“Although I have horses at home, it’s different working on a commercial yard.

“It’s been interesting learning about health and safety, and about how to care for a wide range of different horses. I’ve also made new friends with the same interests.”

Reaseheath pre 16 learning manager Graham Morgan: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in their final two years at school to receive a practical, work-related experience as part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum.

“It’s an opportunity for them to do something different from the subjects they are offered at school.”

More than 300 school pupils aged between 14 and 16 study at Reaseheath on a weekly basis.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
