Staff and shoppers at Sainsbury’s Nantwich have raised £3,300 for the One in Eleven Appeal.

The Middlewich Road supermarket chose the appeal as its charity of the year for 2012.

It has spent 12 months raising funds through bake sales, bag packing and collections in store.

The One in Eleven Appeal, which aims to create a new neo-natal unit at Leighton Hospital.

The Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity appeal has already raised £1.8 million it needs, but additional funds will provide more enhancements or new equipment.

Store PR ambassador Olwyn Payton presented the cheque to the appeal’s fundraising manager Laura Bailey.

Olwyn said: “Customers and colleagues voted for the One in Eleven Appeal to be our charity of the year and they supported it throughout.

“It means a lot with so many good causes around and in tough financial times that people have given so much to the appeal.

“It was amazing how many people told us their children or grandchildren were cared for at Leighton, it really has connected with everyone. It has been inspiring to see how people have got behind this cause.”

Laura added: “We have been overwhelmed with support for the appeal and even though we have now reached our target, these funds will help us make our new unit even better.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
