The pothole-ridden A500 Shavington bypass near Nantwich is to close for two days to allow for urgent repairs.
The eastbound lane heading away from Nantwich towards the M6 will be closed between 9.30am and 4pm on Thursday March 14.
And on Friday March 15, the westbound lane towards Nantwich will be closed between 9.30am and 4pm.
The road surface is particularly bad on the approach to several of the roundabouts along the bypass.
Cheshire East Council say they had been hoped to carry out the work overnight today (March 12) and tomorrow.
But sub-zero temperatures have prevented, and highways chiefs have opted for day-time emergency repairs.
A spokesman said: “The council apologises for any inconvenience the lane closures may cause motorists.
“However, the priority has to be the safety of road users and the repairs are now urgent.”

On Thursday 14th in the evening, I was annoyed to see a short distance down the A534 at the Bickerton Turnoff towards Wrexham that there were signs saying ‘Road ahead Closed”. Risking having no insurance by driving on a closed road, I continued on, as there was no advice as to where the road was closed and as I know the area well know that there are properties all down the route that would require access anyway. I merrily travelled on towards the Bickerton Poacher pub, passing a further three ‘Road ahead closed signs’. At the Bickerton turn towards Malpas, I left the road and went on my way towards Malpas and No Mans Heath. I guess that somewhere near Broxton the road could have been blocked, but I equally could have taken a 5 mile detour if I had followed a vague diversion suggested towards Tarporley, 180 degrees away from my destination. I wish the Council could put the exact road closure point on the signs and then the locals and other road users would know if the diversion was necessary. I understand for safety, road closures are a necessity for the repair teams, but poor signage should be avoided to save fuel and tempers.
Travelled on the 534 towards Nantwich on Thursday and the road was closed for repairs. Was diverted via Whitchurch only to be held up for a prod of time by considerable work being undertaken on the 525 diverted route. Joined up thinking please.
It seems pretty clear that safety of road users is the last thing on the minds of CEC, otherwise they would not have allowed the road to deteriorate to the extent that it has. I use the road and I have seen the potholes.
This is great ews for the travelling public, although minor disruption is expected from tis ths news feed I am sure that the work will e arrived out to a high standard.
