Blyth FA Cup - Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, pre-season games, community football

By Robert Summerscales
Nantwich Town’s home game with Blyth Spartans has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain over the last 24 hours has once again left the Weaver Stadium pitch unplayable.

The decision was made after a pitch inspection at around 8.30am today (March 9)

Nantwich had drafted in veteran goalkeeper Paul Horridge yesterdayas cover for regular stopper Jon Brain who was suspended for today’s match after being sent off against Rushall Olympic.

“Paul is an experienced keeper,” said Dabbers manager Jimmy Quinn.

“He was recently at Altrincham, but he hasn’t played much recently due to his work commitments as a fireman.

“We have only signed him for one game, he knows that, but at least he will be registered, so he will be there as back-up if Jon is unavailable again.”

Captain Darren Moss, who missed Monday night’s 3-0 defeat at Ilkeston through illness, was also expected to return to the starting XI.

Quinn was hoping today’s match would get Nantwich back to winning ways and start a decent run. They haven’t won at home since December 1.

“We have performed quite well in recent weeks,” Quinn. “Big refereeing decisions have gone against us and a little bit of inexperience has also cost us at times.

“However, I have been very impressed with the new lads and the team seems to be gelling nicely.”

No date has been fixed for the rearranged game with Blyth.

Nantwich are next in action on Tuesday night (March 12) at home to Curzon Ashton in the Doodson Sports Cup.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
