A late goal from former Fulham winger Sean Doherty consigned Nantwich Town to defeat at home to Marine.

The Dabbers had taken an early lead through captain Darren Moss.

But Will Jones and Alan Burton netted either side of half time to give the Merseysiders the edge.

Kyle Wilson equalised for Nantwich with his eighth goal of the season just before the hour mark.

But Doherty decided the contest with a heavily-deflected strike 19 minutes from time.

Just 14 minutes were on the clock when Moss headed home from debutant Nicky Platt’s inswinging free-kick.

Nantwich came close to doubling their lead moments later as Niall Maguire’s long-range effort rebounded off the inside of the post to Ryan Dicker, who was unable to force his shot goalwards.

Jones poked home to level the scores on 29 minutes, after the Dabbers defence failed to clear a long ball from John Shaw.

Nantwich had a goal disallowed in the dying seconds of the first half when Wilson capitalised on a defensive error before finishing coolly.

However referee Stuart Eagland awarded a free-kick for offside, thinking the ball had been played forward by Brandon Windsor.

Marine edged ahead in the 49th minute courtesy of a sublime 25-yard volley from Burton.

The Lilywhites’ lead lasted just eight minutes, as Wilson tapped in to level from a pinpoint low cross by Windsor.

Marine’s winning goal was cruel on Nantwich.

Doherty’s innocuous-looking shot into a crowd of bodies took a huge defection, which caused the ball to loop beyond keeper Jon Brain, who had been largely underworked for the majority of the game.

Nantwich and Marine remain 14th and fourth respectively.

Nantwich: Brain, Raglan, Bailey, Hughes (Clayton 46), Dicker, Moss, Cole, Platt, Windsor (Everall), Wilson (Lane 76), Maguire. Subs: Guest, Jones.

Marine: McMahon, Dowling, Shaw, Ojapah, Grannon, Lawton (Burton 16), Harris (Doherty 59), Dixon (Rice 59), Jones, Rogan, Ordish. Subs: Devine, Williams.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
