The cut and thrust of the live stand-up circuit at Nantwich Civic Hall is off to a fine start in 2013.
From the moment host and compere Jonathan Mayor bounced (almost literally) onto stage, the audience was captured.
Mayor played the near-packed house to perfection from the beginning, with his razor-sharp audience interaction and ability to whip the crowd into an excited frenzy as he introduced each act.
More than happy to play on his colour and sexuality (throwing in comparisons to Alan Carr and Halle Berry!), Mayor was brilliantly outrageous between performances.
Long-haired Dudley comedian Sean Percival provided a fabulous contrast when the former welder loped on stage.
His straight-talking delivery hit the audience time and again between the eyes with hilarious takes on everyday life.
From curling to hand transplants to baldness, his wicked sense of derision had the audience clutching at their sides.
Second act Lloyd Langford (pictured), probably the star of the night, cranked it up a notch with a classic performance.
The Welshman’s bone-dry delivery coupled with an ability to leave the killer line dangling teasingly in front of his audience proved a quality combination.
The way he tells anecdotes like the inadvertent lager drinking competition with a van driver on his way to work, are memorable moments.
Some comedy aficionados will have seen some influence of Langford’s best pal Rhod Gilbert in some of the material.
But the successful writer for a number of shows proved he can also deliver in stage as well as with the pen.
Finishing off the show was Dan Evans, a comedian who draws regular comparisons to Harry Hill. On this performance, it was easy to see why.
His acerbic wit, random switching between subjects, leaves the audience breathless.
Combining this with favourite gags like his tinfoil house and checking the balance in the bank queue, it was a fine ending to a top night of live entertainment.
On this showing, the next live stand-up on March 1 is sure to be sell-out. Don’t hang around when the tickets are out.
