Courtney Pine

The Nantwich Jazz, Blues and Music Festival will help to relaunch one of the town’s most iconic venues.

And festival organisers have secured UK jazz pioneer Courtney Pine to headline the special Gregory’s relaunch concert on March 28.

The 17th festival, over the Easter weekend, already has jazz-funk legends Shakatak, rock ‘n’ roll icons The Blockheads and Sad Cafe, and award-winning blues singer Connie Lush in the line-up.

Now organisers are celebrating the deal to bring Pine to the town.

Gregory’s has been taken over by local businessmen and the club is currently under refurbishment.

Festival organiser Phil Martin said: “The club is due to reopen as The Studio Nightclub and Venue and was already staging six of our ‘around the town’ acts over the weekend.

“But we have also been approached to stage a launch night for the club on the Thursday March 28 the first night of the festival.

“And we have secured the services of one of the world’s top jazz performers Courtney Pine. This will be a fantastic evening, a unique occasion and one certainly not to be missed.”

Multi-instrumentalist Pine has led a generation of exciting and innovative players who have broadened their styles to take jazz out to a wider audience.

Also headlining this year’s festival will be alternative rockers The Wonderstuff, featuring Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls, while Mike Peters of The Alarm will entertain audiences at the Civic Hall.

This year’s festival runs from Thursday March 28 until Monday April 1.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
