Swanley Locks on the popular Llangollen Canal near Nantwich are to undergo a £50,000 renovation scheme.
The funds have been set aside by the Canal & River Trust as part of its essential maintenance programme.
Locks one (pictured) and two at Swanley will be refurbished.
Lock chambers will be emptied to allow the removal of the ageing 20-year old lock gate and for a new top gate to be craned in at Lock one.
Other works include the refurbishment of the top gate at Lock two and repointing.
Swanley Locks, near Burland, see many boats pass through each year to visit the iconic World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Wales.
Wendy Capelle, waterway manager at the Canal & River Trust, said: “These lock gates have served their purpose for 20 years and it’s amazing we can still use the same techniques to allow them to be put back in action for generations to come.
“Today thousands of people enjoy walking, boating and cycling along the canals and their towpaths.
“The Llangollen Canal is very popular with boaters and the refurbishment works we’re undertaking will ensure the canal structure is in good working order for the next 25-30 years.”
