Car crooks have targeted nine unlocked vehicles in Wistaston in the past few weeks, police said.

And motorists are being warned to lock their vehicles as thefts from unlocked cars continue to rise.

In total, 18 cars have been targeted overnight in Crewe area, with nine of them in Wistaston left unlocked.

Sgt Andy McGillian said: “They are a clear case of an opportunist thief trying door handles in the hope of striking lucky.

“Sadly, there appears to have been rich pickings as they found four cars unlocked and were able to take advantage.

“While we continue to crackdown on car thieves, we urge people to lock their cars up and report to police anyone acting suspiciously in their street.

“We also advise people never to leave cash or valuables in a parked vehicle and certainly not to leave anything of value on show.”

Sgt McGillian said cars should be locked at all times, even for a few seconds, and alarms/steering locks activated.

Owners should remove valuable items from the vehicle, rather than hide them in the glove box or under seats.

Remove sat navs from windscreens and clean where sucker pads have been.

Record make, model and serial numbers of valuable property so it can be identified if stolen.

Fit anti- theft number plates which will shatter or distort if forcibly removed, making them unusable by thieves.

Park in well-lit areas where lots of people are around.

Anyone with any information about vehicle crime is urged to contact Cheshire Police officers on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
