Twenty-six children in Cheshire East are still waiting to be placed with adoptive families, latest figures show.

And many children are waiting almost two years in council care before being adopted.

The figures emerged as Cheshire East Council responded to the release of the Government’s national adoption scorecard.

Last year, children in Cheshire East were in care for an average of 719 days before being adopted.

However, this was down from 747 days the year before.

More children are being successfully placed with families year on year. In the last year, 23 children were adopted, compared to 19 the previous year and 16 the year before that.

This year, 16 children have been adopted and it is hoped 30 children will have been by March 2013.

Cllr Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member in charge of children and families, said: “We recognise we need to reduce further the time it takes for children in our care to be adopted, and we are taking action across a number of areas.

“We are moving in the right direction. More children are being placed with loving families in a shorter period of time.

“We are also optimistic the changes brought about by the recent Family Justice Review will assist councils in this respect.”

The council is looking for 20 adoptive families to come forward. Some of the children are in sibling groups.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
