Acton Amateur Operatic Society

Acton Operatics Society has been wowing audiences with its “La Cage Aux Folles” at Crewe Lyceum.

Acton’s opening numbers were outstanding and the following songs and routines didn’t disappoint.

The musical, better known by its film adaptation ‘The Bird Cage”, tells the story of Georges and his partner Albin who run a nightclub in Paris, and what happens when their lifestyle doesn’t fit into their son’s wedding plans.

The two leads had incredible voices. Steve Turnbull as Georges and Anthony Saxon as Albin, owned the stage whenever they sang.

Ryan Bearpark played Jacob, a wonderful comic character who made the entire audience fall into fits of laughter almost every time he was on the stage.

My dad (being my regular theatre partner) just couldn’t believe that they were amateurs.

“Really?” he said. “They sound fantastic.”

The applause at the end didn’t discriminate and sounded to me much louder and went on for longer than at some of the professional shows I’ve seen recently.

The cast were also supported by the dancers, who had so many costume changes, dance routines and roles to play, I’m amazed they knew where to be and at what time.

A marvellous group who deserve credit for their hard work and dedication that they’ve obviously put into this production.

If you are looking for a fun night out this week, then please do consider ‘La Cage Aux Folles’, on at The Lyceum until Saturday October 13.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
