John Tunstall, RFS Award Best Practical Student

A Nantwich college student has scooped a national forestry award.

John Tunstall is the first Reaseheath College student to win a Royal Forestry Society (RFS) Silky Fox Handsaws Award.

He was selected as best practical student on his Level 3 Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture course.

The new award recognises outstanding students on courses with a strong practical arboriculture or woodland management element. It is run by the RFS at 21 colleges.

John, 19, from Wimboldesley, received a Silky Gomtaro 300mm pruning saw and a year’s RFS membership.

RFS North West Midlands chairman David Gwillam said: “Understanding good woodland management is a continuous process as new techniques are developed, new threats and diseases appear and new tree species are introduced.”

Reaseheath countryside curriculum manager Jamie Cook said: “John has impressed us with his enthusiasm and willingness to help others, particularly in practical sessions.

“Strong practical skills are essential if students are to become successful, particularly in such a competitive industry.”

John was a horticulture student at the Nantwich college before branching out into arboriculture.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
