Nantwich Road sealed off with man on roof - pic by Dave Vernon

Police closed the busy Nantwich Road in Crewe after a man climbed on to a rooftop and threw slates on to the road below.

The drama began at around 5.30pm today (July 21) and the Cheshire police helicopter and dozens of officers were sent to the scene.

The man was spotted on the roof of a building opposite the old Lac Thai restaurant on Nantwich Road.

There are also reports that the man was seen throwing roof slates onto the road below, but there are no reports of injuries.

Police cordoned off the route at both ends, and specialist officers attempted to coax him down to safety.

Eyewitnesses say the stand-off lasted for several hours and he was still on the roof at around 10pm.

It’s unclear if police have made any arrests at this stage.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
