Scouts and Edward Timpson at House of Commons

Crewe and Nantwich Scouts joined their MP Edward Timpson for the prestigious annual Speaker’s reception.

They were among 150 young people in Scouting and volunteer Scout leaders from across the UK to meet with MPs at the House of Commons event.

It was hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Scout Group and the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP.

It is designed to offer young people in Scouting a chance to talk about the challenges facing their organiation, such as the lack of adult volunteers.

Emily Au, a 16-year-old Explorer Scout who attended, said: “It gave me such a fantastic opportunity to talk to so many different people who can really make a difference to the Scouting Movement today.

“It also gives us a chance to voice our own concerns on common issues that affect young people.”

Mr Timpson said: “With waiting lists to join the Scouts growing, it is clear Scouting continues to be relevant and dynamic, providing young people with the opportunity to learn new skills, enjoy new experiences and contribute positively to our community.

“I have learned more about the challenges faced by the movement such as the lack of adult volunteers.

“I look forward to continuing to support the groups in my constituency through raising awareness of this issue in Parliament.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
