A51 Bypass crash

A driver was killed in a head-on smash as he overtook another vehicle on a road near Nantwich.

The accident happened on the B5074 Main Road, Church Minshull.

The 33-year-old victim was driving towards Nantwich in a blue Suzuki Baleno at around 4.30pm yesterday (May 28).

As he overtook another vehicle, his car was in collision with a silver Mitsubishi Shogun travelling in the opposite direction.

The Suzuki driver, from Sandbach, was taken to nearby Leighton Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 58-year-old woman from Winsford, was treated for minor chest injuries and released from hospital the same day.

The road was closed for some time in the afternoon to allow recovery and investigation work.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision itself or the vehicles before the collision.
