Nantwich schoolchildren will be safer thanks to a new pathway in the town, say councillors.

The £60,000 route linking Taylor Drive and Edmund Wright Way will allow pupils to walk safely to Malbank School and Sixth Form College and Millfields Primary School.

It means youngsters can avoid using busy Marsh Lane as the new route crosses the river tributary between the two streets.

Cheshire East Council secured funding for the project from travel charity Sustrans and local developers.

Nantwich Mayor Cllr Arthur Moran said the route would link in with other cycle networks and “perfectly complement” school travel plans.

“Both schools actively encourage pupils to walk or cycle to school and they have installed new parking facilities for bikes for this purpose,” he added.

He has urged local parents to encourage their children use the route.

Cllr Michael Jones, cabinet member with responsibility for resources, said Cheshire East Council wants to do what it can to encourage people to get out walking and cycling.

“This new multi-route path is a huge step toward creating a healthy and sustainable borough and we actively encourage that,” he added.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
