I  can’t remember the last time I went to a circus, and what few memories I do have include the ring-master with his top hat and being scared by the clown.

So when The Moscow State Circus came to Crewe this week, I decided to go along and see how things had changed.

With my dad in tow – to protect me from any scary clowns! – we went to The Lyceum to see ‘Babushkin Sekret’, a modern version of a truly unique and beautiful piece of theatre production.

Valerik and Valik led the audience through the legend of the 12 chairs as they try to find the hidden treasure. It’s everything you’d expect from a circus and more.

Acrobats, a revolving ring suspended in the air, death-defying roller skating and of course clowns – but not the scary kind.

This is a magical theatre experience that the entire family can enjoy, full of breath-taking entertainment with a traditional circus approach.

The dedication, skill and training is evident with each performer.

I’m still trying to work out how the skipping sensation that is ‘Skakcki 9’ managed their routine without any accidents.

The little boy sat in a row behind me had a great time and spoke for everyone when he shouted “WOW, how does he do that?” when watching the ‘Four Vassillievs’ bounce, backflip and land on a 10cm wide bamboo bar.

The entire audience held their breath during the ‘last chair’ routine.

A tower of chairs built up to the rafters, an amazing show of strength and agility from Sasha Dokorov.

I’m never seen a show like this at The Lyceum before and I hope it returns.

If you get the chance, go.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
